NASCAR ~ The Real Chase begins ~ Speed Control and the Fontana Curse

 Congrats to Jimmie Johnson on winning Richmond and leading the pack into The Chase.

The Chase has begun and I must admit that I am really sorry that Jr. didn’t make it. Ryan too. But life goes on and there is always 2008, which promises to be more exciting than what 2007 has been, as far as racing itself is concerned. 2007 has been pretty boring for me. The main “excitement” has been controversy, sensationalism and posturing, not good old fashioned “get out there and kick some butt racing. Yes, there have been a few moments of excitement, mostly due to Juan Pablo Montoya, a few good finishes, but for me the season has been mostly mundane.

Hopefully the actual Chase will be different.

As for the last two weeks in my life:

I once again did the Scope’s for both Cali and Richmond, knowing we wouldn’t be home…and once again saved them as drafts instead of publishing them. To my astonishment, I get home, look at my blog and no posts. Duh.

I won tickets to Fontana from the Kodak Contest that our fav Canuck hosted at his NASCAR Ranting and Raving Blog.  A couple of cow things came up and it looked as if we were not going to be able to go. With disaster narrowly averted, we set out for lovely Southern California. We get to Southern Oregon, not quite to the California Border. Now mind you, the last few Cali trips have been disasters so I am feeling a bit apprehensive. Dale is already mad at me for going into one of my “I don’t wanna fly… govenment agents might try to get me for slamming Senator Larry Gag, or Mexican Mafia might decide to shoot down the plane we are on because the cops just busted a huge pot farm in our canyon…yada, yada, yada…” Flight gets cancelled and we drive, against Dale’s looming sense that he is married to a LUNATIC. 

My spiffy high tech, automatic speed control alarm, which is implanted in my body, is going off every 5 minutes because Dale hits 66 mph.

“EH! EH! EH! 66!! ^*!! Watch your speed! Getting a speeding ticket is like throwing a hundred dollar bill out the window to see where it blows!”

The speedometer drops 1 MPH.

“EH!! EH!! EH!! 68!!”

Dale gives me a look I know well. It’s the look that comes just prior to him turning into Satan’s Spawn.

I close my eyes and tell myself to stop it, everything is o.k., and he’s a good driver. I try again to tell myself that, until I open my eyes and see the speedometer at 85 mph and he’s looking at something off the back of his shoulder with a curve coming up in front of us.

“EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!” I am slamming on the invisible brake that is on my side of the floor board.

I then bring myself back out of the denial I have been trying to keep myself in for the last few minutes. Dale is not a good driver. He drives way too fast, is inattentive and has been in several accidents because of it. I never had, nor do I at any time now, have an anxiety issue while riding in a car, with anyone else other Dale. (Except two of my four daughter’s, who are also really fast, bad drivers. I won’t ride with them at all. Not even two blocks.)

He hits the brakes, as I have startled him out of whatever deep thought was going on in his mind. I see that Satan’s Spawn has now arrived.

“You are going to kill us scaring me like that!” he says.

I say, “Well, if you were paying attention to what you were doing, I wouldn’t have to have the auto alarm!”

Fire begins to flare out of Satan’s Spawn’s nose. His eye’s turn reptilian looking. Blood begins to drip from his ear’s as the pressure in his brain increases.

“I may be in deep doo-doo”, I think to myself.

The truck stops. Satan’s Spawn is in full blown mode now. The truck turns itself around and heads back the way we came at 25 mph.

“What are you doing?” I innocently ask the Man-Child of Satan.

“I am going mining.” He boldly states.

“Ha-ha.” I say.

The lizard-like eyes glare at me. The truck continues it’s forward trek at 25 mph.

” I figure that if we drive 25 mph back to the mine, we will get there about the same time we would get to Fontana if we were driving 85 or 90 and I don’t have to listen to the incessent EH! EH! EH! all the way there.”

I am stunned. “He’s kidding”. “He’s just having a temper tantrum because I am right about his driving skills, and soon Jesus will exorcise Satan’s Spawn from my Beloved and we will be on our way.”

A totally wordless-from-him hour later, I know he wasn’t kidding. We are not on our way to Fontana. We are on our way to John Day, OR. At 25 mph.

We had planned on going to the mine on our way back from Fontana and spending a week there. I knew we would be gone until last night.

I just planned to be somewhere else the first week.

I ended up Labor Day weekend in the middle of nowhere, with no phone or electricity, or internet…or second car to run away to NASCAR Sanity Land, otherwise known as the lone bar in Prairie City, OR… Not knowing who won the race in California.

 

Stayed in nowhere land until yesterday afternoon. A prisoner aginst my will, held captive by Satan’s Spawn.

I have decided the the Labor Day Race in Fontana is not meant for us to go to again. Spring? Maybe. Fall? Never again.

And now you know the rest of the story. Satan’s Spawn has been exorcised. The auto-speed indicator is still in place. We have to drive to Boise this evening, for Doc appt.’s in the morning.

Watkins Glen lives up to Rock and Rollin’ History

Well, I must say I enjoyed Watkins Glen tremendously. Interesting ending tho…
The Hot and Spicy John Paul the Pope of Motorsports showed a bit of Latino Big Red attitude towards Mr Happy Harvick. The last few laps proved tense and exciting as I was fighting with my husband over who was going to win, Gordon or Stewart. Jeff Gordon spun himself out. Darn.
Denny Hamlin proved he can run a good road race. I thought Carl Edwards was really Kyle Busch in disguise and he was going to kill someone. But no, Kyle was a good boy, with a good finish. I better get used to being nicer to him if he is going to Gibbs. He does bring a heck of a lot of talent to the team, even if he is an ass. I guess ass is ok to say, as NASCAR.com reports that Kevin Harvick will not be penalized for saying it.No Penalties?? Please.Let’s look at fair and objective behaviors when we talk about penalties.
My fav road racers, except for Boris Said all got a top 10. Congrats to Robby Gordon, Ron Fellows and even Jeff Gordon for spinning out and still getting a 10′r.
The biggest surprise of the day? Greg Biffle. Great run.
Too bad for Jr. It’s o.k. He will pull out of this.
Congats of course to my driver, Tony Stewart for the win. They are only just beginning for him. Watch out for Newman to make that top 12 too. He will.

However, I, not being able to tell time correctly or figure out the difference between time zones, was chasing cattle back into the pastures they were supposed to be in, (after some punk ass thought it would be funny to open all the gates in the canyon and let everyones cattle mingle) missed the friggin race. Those kids thought they caused some problems for a couple of people…they are really in trouble now. Dead meat. I missed my driver win the most important win he could get, other than Homestead at the end of the Chase. Way to go JP the Pope of Motorsports too!

Here are the pertinent drivers with the most significant-”zat” aspects for Richmond today. Unfortunately Dale Jarrett’s ‘scope will not be among them. D.J.’s was awesome for today, lousy all the previous week. Greg Biffle still has the same lousy ‘scope he has had. This aspect’s in effect until May 12th. Bet Biff will be glad when it ends!
The Mercury Opposition Uranus is in several driver’s ‘scopes today, which has a tendency to create a problem with insertion of feet into mouths. This aspect is in Carl Edwards, Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, Dale Jr., Jeff Burton, Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon’s scope’s.
The Moon goes Void of course today so it doesn’t really matter what any scope says because today is a day where anything can happen to anyone, in the exact manner expected. SO…..I could just make up a bunch of stuff today. In fact I think I will. The made up scope’s will be marked with a triple***.

***Kyle Busch: Wrecks because he isn’t listening to his spotter. He is instead, listening to the lyrics of his favorite song:

Jeff Gordon volunteers to finish the race for him and then rams Kyles car into Tony Stewart who takes out Jimmie Johnson, who takes out 24 more cars with him.

Well, except maybe Biff’s, Stremme, and D.J.’s. There are some awesome positive aspects there for nearly all the driver’s. Take a close look at Jr.’s aspects. in light of what is happening in his life right now. Hmmmm….??

We heard today that the river is rising and we need to get up there with some equipment while we can still cross with the truck. For the short time that the river is really high, we can access it with the cable car, and 4 wheelers. (*FYI ~ Where we go is less than two hours on the free way from our home in ID. The last few miles take a half an hour in itself, because of the remoteness, and slow, curvy gravel roads with occasional boulders in the way. It’s not like we are driving hundreds and miles:)) We still have a load of equipment and parts that we need to get up there.

NASCAR ~ Insert Thy Foot into Thy Mouth.

There are a lot of lips flapping this week about Mr. Excitement, Jr., Kelly, DEI, Mikey, Tony Stewart and John Paul the Pope of Motorsports.

My opinion?  ROFLOL.

1. Should Jimmy Spencer be fired?

Heck no! Who could ever take his place? He is what he is and he says what he says. It wasn’t a racial, sexist, misogynistic comment. It was his opinion and he has the right to it. Yes, I agree it was harsh… to the point of mean. I understand Jr. and Kelly and their staff and fans being very angry. He apologized, for what that was worth. But fire him? No way.

2. Should Dale Jr. have driven for at Texas?

Yup-oh! Made Baby Busch look a bit, ummmmm, stupid. Which always breaks my heart. Sorry Helen.  I really hope it doesn’t come back to bite Jr. in the butt. For example, Kyle beating Jr. into the 12th Chase spot by 3 points.

3. Has DEI renewed Jr.’s contract, giving him controlling interest?

Step-Mommy would be an idiot not to do it. If she loses him , well I wouldn’t want to wish that kind of a catastrophe on anyone. Yes, she would still make a ton of money off Dale Sr.’s name and rightfully so. She was his wife. I do believe that where Jr. goes…Martin Truex Jr. will follow. Who would drive for her? Jimmy’s comment that Dale Sr.’s fans would be upset with Jr.? I doubt it…Jr.’s fans rank him right under God and Dad.

4. Mikey?

I feel really bad for him. What a bunch of bad luck. The saying goes “What doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger.“ Thank God he wasn’t killed. No, I don’t believe he was drunk for one second. Give the guy a friggin’ break. I hope the Crew Chief change will help. I think we all need to remember that Toyota is the ONLY American made car in NASCAR, and get off the “Made in the U.S.A.” crap. It’s not like he and the other Toyota driver’s have committed treason and went over to Al-Qa’ida.

5. Tony Stewart and Juan Pablo Montoya tiffing?

I predicted Tony and John Paul, The Pope of Motorsports, would eventually be at war this season. I received a lot of disagreement at the time about it, as he and Tony had at one time been team mates. So what? They are both out to win, not say “Excuse me! Please move along now.” I also predicted J.P.M. would make a lot of driver’s mad. My favorite “Rookie” didn’t come to NASCAR to ”Kick back and learn” as my driver so delicately said. He came to kick butt. I believe he will continue to do what he does best. Drive. Aggressively. Very Aggressively. He has now ticked off my 2 favorite drivers. First Ryan, then Tony.

Wonder who will be next?

Jr.? Heaven forbid.

Jeff Gordon? **snicker… I can’t wait to see that. 

Maybe Kevo?  Wonder if Kev would have anything to say, or would he / could he, stay totally silent? Ol’ Hap can make me laugh like no one else, except Kenny Wallace. I am anxious to see Tony & John Paul, The Pope of Motorsports, perform at Phoenix. We all know how Tony loves Phoenix.

6. Did the Baby Alien really? just have a mis-communication?

I doubt it. Is that even a word? It was probably more of a temper tantrum. I promised him earlier this year that I wouldn’t call him Big Baby Busch anymore if he continued to act like a man. I didn’t see it and those who did aren’t talking, so I will keep my promise. I am just waiting though. Heart beating in anticipation for the day I can break my promise.       

So there, now you have my opinion, for what it’s worth.

NASCAR ~ Kenseth sweeps California!

Congrat’s to Matt Kenseth for the California sweep! I heard Bab’s screaming clear from TX.

A good broom was needed. Sure was a lot of crap flying round that track.

I was really sorry to see Harvick’s tire “issue”.

Glad Tony and Ryan had a good day.

Very glad David R. is alive and ok.

Really don’t give a rip about Mark Martin.

Glad John Paul the Pope of Motor Sports did not rip into a wall.

Really Glad I didn’t pay to go see that race.

I am always prompt to admit when I am wrong.

I was right on a few calls. I was right about both Jr.’s and some fuel issues. Policy changes? Perhaps. We will see.

I was way wrong on one main point.

California was boring. Very, very…boring.

What I did while watching? the race:

1. Read a good portion of Dr. Laura’s Women Power.

2. Got bored with that.

3. Played a thousand hands of Poker on the computer.

4. Thought about taking a nap while Dale was taking a nap.

5. Promised Dale I would wake him if anything exciting happened. He woke up by himself with 18 to go.

6. Thought about going outside and fixing the plastic on the green house that the wind ripped off during the snow blizzard of the day.

7. Changed my mind.

8. Played more Poker.

9. Played Hearts.

10. Surfed the net a bit and found this post , which was the highlight of the day…

There are going to be a lot of women in trouble if the Govt. ever searches our homes when they have nothing better to do with their time than I did today.

Later Gator’s! It has stopped snowing and I need to go count cows while it is still daylight and make sure the coyotes didn’t eat any cow babie’s while I wasted my time watching that race.

Got my racing fix over the weekend…even tho Tony and his team didn’t win, they hung in there despite issue after issue with the car. Congrat’s to the 01 team. I think Juan Pablo Montoya is our next Rookie of the Year. Would it be cool if he won Daytona his first attempt? Pay attention to that question. It will be very important in the near future.

Have a great week! It’s my birthday tomorrow. The little Alien’s singing to me are so apropo. We are going take off for a day or so little jaunt to somewhere.
