2009 Dakar Rally ~ Stage 1 Results

Nasser Al-Attiyah (BMW) is the winner with a time of 2:36.15. The Qatari beat Spaniard Carlos Sainz (VW) by 2.17 and South African Giniel de Villiers (VW) by 2.40. The leading Mitsubishi driver, Luc Alphand, has finished 4.44 behind the day’s winner. Al Attiyah is the current FIA World Cup leader.

As of right now Robby Gordon/Andy Grider finished 10 over all with an 8th place cross and a 17th place over all standing, 14 minutes and 25 seconds behind the leader. That means he should be able to stay in the top contention, making up minute by minute each day.

The Vanguard Hummer is standing at 26th overall with a time of 24:52 (That’s minutes and seconds behind the winner of the stage FYI)

I will post more information as it comes in.

Watch for Robby and Andy’s scopes for tomorrow coming up later today.

In the meantime..

Here are a couple of video’s showing the South American Dakar countryside and another interview from SBS yesterday. Watch through towards the end (about the 3 minute mark) as Robby catches (someone?) trying to take pictures of the Hummer’s suspension and runs them off.
